SUSTAINABILITY
How are your products sustainable?
We mindfully make our products from deadstock fabrics from all over Istanbul. We use fabrics that are faulty, discolored, with holes, or any other reason you can think about for fast fashion brands to throw them away! We go around the faults, get what is usable and produce in full transparency.
What is deadstock fabric?
Deadstock fabric is fabric that is leftover unused fabric for different reasons. This unused fabric meterage can be doomed for landfill due to excess manufacturing or miscalculated consumptions. They can be in perfect condition but still thrown away. We at OhSevenDays try to pollute less and pick up fast fashions trash and magically turn it into beautiful sustainable slow fashion products.
Where do you find deadstock fabric? How do you source your fabrics?
We are lucky to be in one of the world's textile capitals. The brand was actually born after our Founder, Megan Mummery stumbled across a small district of Istanbul selling off-cut fabric rolls leftover from large garment manufacturers. We either source them directly from fabric manufacturers' stocks or different middle mens who get the fabrics from different factories and sell them.
How do you know your fabrics are sustainable?
We use natural or semi-natural fabrics. We source deadstock fabric from traceable sources and have OEKO TEX certified materials.
What kinds of fabrics do you use?
We try to use all natural fabrics like cotton, cupro, rayon, viscose.. We also use recycled semi natural fabrics as well.
Does it really make a difference?
Yes! Fabric production is a huge polluter of water, landfills and releases large amounts of greenhouse gases every year. By using surplus/deadstock fabrics exclusively we don't add more new fabric to an over-saturated industry.
Is your supply chain sustainable? How do you know?
We use natural, deadstock fabric for our production. Every step of our production is based in Istanbul, that’s how we keep our hands on every step and minimize CO2 emission.
Is your production ethical? How do you know?
Yes! We believe in the principle “do not allow employees to work under conditions you yourself wouldn't want to work''. Our new production facility operates under a strict code of conduct and has received certification from Sedex Ethical Trade Membership (https://www.sedex.com/about-us/), an organisation ensuring businesses achieve certain standards of ethical, health, and safe working environments.
