You’ve probably heard of Black Friday, celebrated a day after Thanksgiving and marking the beginning of the holiday season. While it was originally taking place in the US, the tradition has spread all around the world, symbolizing the rise of modern consumerism.
This shopping ‘binge’ sends a message to brands that this industrial model of running on overproduction is the way to go if they want to increase profits; the outcome of Black Friday for retailers is that they can keep on producing thoughtlessly because, as long as there are discounts, we will continue to empty their stockpiles.
Once again, at OhSevenDays, we’ve decided not to be a part of this year’s Black Friday and to promote conscious and thoughtful shopping. We encourage you to take a step back and ask yourself if you really need what you were about to buy, because part of the collective impact that would help fixing the environmental and social damage created by Black Friday lies in individual action.
However, we are conscious that not everyone can afford ethical consumerism, and, in order to make it more accessible, we will be running an anti-Black Friday sale between Nov 29th – 5th. Because it is almost impossible for us to predict exactly how much to produce, we are unfortunately bound to have a surplus left. To avoid anything going to waste, our post cyber week sale will be including different pieces from the collections we’ve created over the last few seasons.
